by Abrey Farms |  31 Jan 2019

RG Abrey Farms has been announced as the winners of Farm Business of the Year at the 2018 Food and Farming Industry Awards.

Giles & Matt Abrey of RG Abrey Farms were handed the award at a prestigious ceremony, hosted by former British Ambassador to the US and Germany Sir Christopher Meyer at the House of Commons on Friday night (November 30th).

This fresh produce site in the heart of the Brecklands grows combinable crops, sugar beet and early new season root vegetables and has established Abrey as a premium brand for the Retail & foodservice industry. Production has doubled in the last 10 years and the company, which also holds educational days in local schools, has set its sights on increased use of robotics, machine optimisation and reduced waste.

The Food and Farming Industry Awards are staged annually by Farm Business and Lewis Business Media to recognise excellence and innovation across the agricultural sector.

Farm Business publisher Simon Lewis said: “Congratulations to RG Abrey Farms who were deserved winners on the night. Once again these awards have highlighted the breadth and depth of talent, drive and ambition in the farming sector. We are delighted to recognise the achievements of the winners, but also all of those shortlisted, which, in itself, is a great achievement.”

Chair of judges Meurig Raymond said: “It was a real privilege to chair the judging panel and every category posed real dilemmas for the judging panel, such was the excellence of all the entries. Huge congratulations to all the winners who each managed to demonstrate something different and special about their businesses.”
